Sunset in Negril, Jamaica
Not Another Sunset
Wherever you are in the world there is nothing more beautiful than a sunset. When you look at the Sun going down you will see the changes in colours which are quite relaxing. Sunrise is as pleasing as a sunset. DO NOT look into the Sun! You can damage your eyes. Use a camera with a display or electronic view finder (EVF).

A sunset is a sunset! How you capture it is what is important. How you present it is what is important. You have to decide on the composition of the image, the ISO, white balance, final look (mono, vibrant, emphasize the gold). You can also decide if you want to capture a HDR series or RAW images. In your search engine look up Higher Dynamic Range and Camera Raw.

The most important thing to find out is what time the sun goes down. Go to the location where you want to capture the sunset one hour before it goes down. Take 15 minutes to decide where you would like to take pictures of the sunset. Composition is important. Decide on what you want in the foreground. The last 45 minutes allows you to check your settings and examine the different colours or shades of gold/yellow that you will experience whilst taking pictures.

Use your imagination and be creative. There are so many different images you can take of the sun whilst it is going down. There is also processing that you can do on a computer to the images once it is captured.
You do not have to be any place exotic to capture a sunset. If you have a window facing a sunset you can capture good images.

When I started capturing images off sunsets and sunrises I only included the Sun. Nice but… My recent images of the Sun now include contents in the foreground and activity. The composition of an image adds impact which will make it stand out for positive or negative (constructive) criticism.
